In July 2003 Vernicos Aviation S.A was approved by the Hellenic
Civil Aviation Authority (H.C.A.A) and the Joint Aviation
Authorities (JAA) as an air operator in accordance with
JAR OPS 1.
This approval followed a previous approval of the company
as an Approved Aircraft Maintenance Organisation in accordance
with JAR 145 which allows the company to provide maintenance
not only to its aircraft but also to other air operators.
The approval in accordance with JAR OPS 1 (Joint Aviation
Regulation Operations 1) is of major importance for Vernicos
Aviation S.A as it, effectively, constitutes the operating
licence of the company. It has been achieved after a long-lasting
and laborious process and the rigorous co-ordination between
the Technical Direction and the Flight Operations Department
of the company.
During the process of preparation for the certification,
all the technical and operational procedures of the company
were reviewed and revised where needed so as to satisfy
the requirements of regulation and beyond.
This was followed by repeated and detailed audits from the
H.C.A.A and finally, by the approval with number HR 10.
What does this approval means in simple words? It means
that Vernicos Aviation S.A functions under harmonised, with
the other European air operators, procedures that ensure
the higher standards of Flight Safety and Aircraft Maintenance.
This harmonisation is achieved with the observation of the
Joint Aviation Regulations (JARs).
The Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) is an associated body
of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) representing
the civil aviation regulatory authorities of a number of
European States who have agreed to co-operate in developing
and implementing common safety regulatory standards and
procedures.
The JAA originated as the Authorities' response to the
technical and economic needs of the European
Aviation Industry. However, since 1 January 1992 JAA regulations
(JARs) have become law in the EU States.
The Central JAA based in The Netherlands is responsible
for the process of rulemaking, harmonisation and standardisation,
(using specialist staff from the national authorities),
the decision-making system, the "infrastructure"
and various related tasks.
The JAA's objectives are the following:
· "Aviation Safety"
· "Business Effectiveness"
· "Consolidation of Common Standards"
· "Worldwide Aviation Safety Improvement"
The objectives of Vernicos Aviation S.A are full in line
with the above and have become the aim of all personnel.
